Styling The Special Edition

Final Draft

Date: 22nd, November, 2015

Approved, signed off and sealed, this is the definitive design for the WRC C13 SE based on the original concept and feedback from enthusiastic supporters around the world.

Compromises may still be made with the design to account for the practicality of fitting the existing body and interior mountings and a few minor tweaks to ensure it all fits.  However, this is now close enough to the spirit of the original spirit of the excellent WRX concept to go into production.  Now it's up to you, do you want it?

Diffuser Design

The original 2013 concept gave us a striking style for the diffuser, but it wasn't practical.

When Subaru launched the production WRX the exhaust system was dropped lower in the body, making it difficult to duplicate; but I've got very close to the style.

Changes include raising the central cowl for the rear light and lowering the cowlings around the exhaust. As part of this two air blades have been added inside the cowling just above the exhaust pipes.

The diffuser has been enhanced closer to the original styling and should look excellent and perform well on your car.

The Key Panels...

The design enhancements for the WRX to create the SE replaces the following panels and parts:-

  • Nose bumper panel.
This is a structural element in the crumple zones of all modern cars so this panel has to be strong and resilient to most modest crash conditions and take the wear and tear when you decide to go scampering around country lanes in your Subaru.
Materials must not warp in heat or cold conditions and fit within reasonable tolerances.
We'll be using aerospace grade materials to ensure the panel meets these requirements.
  • Two Front Grills.
We're not producing simple mesh grills.  The new front grills aim to match the original concept as close as reasonable with a depth that creates a striking power in the image of nose
And It's not just a pretty face but influences the airflow around the through the body - it alters aerodynamic downforce on the front.
  • Rear diffuser.
In keeping with the original concept design the diffuser is smart, stylish and delivers a dramatic flare to the rear of the WRX.
Creating downforce on the rear wheels the diffuser needs to maintain smooth airflow from the underside and keep your grip on the road.
  • Lower lights - 4 Units.
The SE has two new sets of indicator and running lights using powerful LED strips specially designed for the Concept 13.
Lighting is a special consideration. It has to meet legal safety standards and will require additional production effort but it's worth it to have something outstanding and in keeping with the spirit of this special project.
  • Two Light Grills.
The two lights are mounted in a multi-bladed grill which celebrates the spirit of the original concept in a practical fashion.  There'll be at lest three upto six blades including the lights in the final production.
  • 10 Parts*.
In all the SE styling upgrade includes ten new parts designed and manufactured to the highest standards possible.
    (*Excluding badges.)

NOTE:  Some of the fans have pointed out how longer the nose appears.  As you can see from the Before/After comparision it's only a fraction longer, with the main feature being the sharper bonnet.  We may tighten the nose panel on the leading edge of nose and splitter an inch or two during tooling and production as long as it doesn't damage this beautiful line.
